Oh Gott, vergesst den zweiten Teil meiner letzten Antwort mal besser wieder. Es war nicht “Moinsky” in Urmel, sondern “Oiski Poiski” in der gleichnamigen Serie. :D —- For those who have no idea what’s going on right now: We’re still talking about the greeting “Moinsky” and it reminded me of “Oiski Poiski” which is a kids program...

sich (gegen etw./jdn.) auflehnen
fuckyeahdeutsch: Meaning: to revolt against sth./sb., to rebel against sth./sb. Examples: Jugendliche lehnen sich manchmal ohne jeden Grund gegen die Eltern auf. Youths sometimes rebel against their parents without any reason. Die Studenten haben sich stark gegen die Erhöhung der Studiengebühren aufgelehnt; leider wurden die trotzdem erhöht. The students revolted against the rise in tuition...

It seems to have a certain personality to it that the English language doesn’t have.  Ah i love the sound of German. It is such a beautiful language. The accent is to die for. I’m not sure whether I’ll watch it yet, but it’s silly in the best way possible! So that really is an argument for giving it a go. I hate the German contestants though, their music is just terrible. Cascada. A friend just used the very fitting term “Jersey Shore blonde” to describe the lead singer, lol.

One Backyard Grill At a Time →
mausergirl: Via NPR. Beyond bratwurst, we generally don’t think of German food as summertime food. In fact, many of us don’t think about German food much at all. But one delicious German tradition is catching on this barbecue season — schwenker. Schwenker is one of those German words that just sounds kind of naughty. But in a few places — the Mosel Valley in western Germany, and the state of...

If I’m not mistaking we (Brazil) have one of the biggest German colonies outside Europe! Also, as said before, a big part came here to scape the nazis, but the immigration has started in the 19th Century! My great grandfather came here in between both wars, mostly fleeing from the already anti-semitic feelings.  In wikipedia you can here more about german immigration. Also, in the south we...

Anonymous asked: I'm a Brazilian from Rio de Janeiro (Southeast Brazil) and we do have German culture here as well, although not as predominant as in the South. My paternal family is Jewish German, my great grandparents and grandparents came here to escape the war. My last name is Goldbach. :) I also have at least a few other friends of German origins, mostly Catholic (usually from Bavaria) and Jewish. And...

hailthesunnydays asked: I too randomly heard that there's a lot of German culture and descendants in Brazil due to immigration probably during WWII. You just need to look at all those Brazilian models with Gisele Bündchen leading the way. A lot of them are of German descent. Also lots of political Germans fled to South America like Erich Honecker plus wife. And I think to have read there are cults founded by...

Anonymous asked: I'm from South Brazil, but I'm a Italian descendant so unfortunately I don't think I'll be much helpful haha. I just know that most of the immigrants came from the region of Trier and Bayern, and I've been to the Blumenau Oktoberfest, it's great! Here traditional German cuisine is very strong as well. Also, in BR Portuguese we have "adopted" lots of German...

Anonymous asked: Hi! I was wondering, do you know anything about German culture in South America (most especifically in Brazil)? The only stuff I know is that they have a dialect based on German in South Brazil and that they hold a huge Oktoberfest "parody", but I haven't found anyone from South Brazil to help m and I wanted more details, once Brazil and Germany are my favorite countries in the...

Geheiratete
So in case you wonder what I had for lunch today, I took a photo… This might not look too great, but I like it a lot! “Geheiratete” consists of strangely formed dumplings, potatoes and a very simple “sauce” out of Speck (bacon) and cream. Very simple but good! It’s a regional dish since it’s only common in the tiny Bundesland I come from (Saarland).

Best Robbery Ever
hipstersbleedroses: sclez: tayathestrange: This morning I heard news about the best robbery ever to happen in Germany. The emblem of the cookie manufacturer “Leibniz” was stolen from their headquaters: a huge golden Leibniz cookie. A few hours later a video appeared of a guy in a Cookie-Monster-Costume. He blackmailed the Leibniz-Buisness-Group to donate Leibniz-Cookies to all hospitals...
